...24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year...

What is their Agenda?  $41,500 to buy the old Chief off, $45,000 to hire the State Police all Summer, and $22,000 to come up with a report to try and justify cutting apart your EPPD.  The meter keeps running and Lawyer's keep sucking up your Tax dollars.  We still do not have a Police Chief chosen from within our ranks.  The City is so confident that they will win in the upcoming arbitration that they refused to give their handpicked new Chief a contract.  Instead he is working day to day.  They are so confident that they are attempting to get a restraining order preventing the arbitration from taking place.  That is their idea of Townie pride and that is what you elected.

This same City Council placed the State Police in our building and tasked an interim Police Chief with evaluating our department.  Well the results are now complete and the taxpayer can decide for themselves on who really has an agenda.

Now the Council is laying off our members while ignoring the State Police report that recommends more personnel and points out that several positions are handling multiple tasks.   STATE POLICE REPORT

The Council has it's own report based on a computer program.  It considers patrolling your neighborhoods to be "idle" time.  The report had ZERO input from Law Enforcement.      THE COUNCIL REPORT

Who is providing an accurate assessment of EPPD?   The State Police who were here for four months or a computer program from Washington?  If the Council felt that only the State Police could lead EPPD then why are they ignoring the very report that they sought?  What is their AGENDA???

Our department is being taken apart piece by piece over politics...where is the Townie pride in that?

NEW! Editorial:  Where is the Leadership?

The East Providence Police provide the lowest crime rate, per capita, in the State of Rhode Island.  That is Townie Pride.  We are also proud that since the day East Providence was formed we have been led on our by one of our own.

We are proud of that distinction and will continue to excel at our jobs in the face of the ongoing politics being played out from three members of the City Council and the City Manager.  We are the best at what we do and criminals will continue to avoid East Providence because of our no nonsense reputation.

The mission of the East Providence Police Department is to protect life, property and civil order while creating and maintaining a proactive partnership with our residential and business community in an effort to enhance public safety and reduce the fear and incidence of crime within the city of East Providence.

We shall endeavor to improve the quality of life in our city by diligently identifying and addressing public safety and community concerns.  We are committed to accomplishing our goals in a professional manner that promotes respect and dignity for all citizens.

Please support us by contacting Council members Larisa, Perry, and Cusack.  Tell them to promote the next Chief from the qualified candidates within the East Providence Police Department.  That is Townie Pride.  Tell them to keep their politics out of our Police department and let us focus on doing our jobs.
